Harvin's "Smart Lockers": Intelligent Lockers

The “Smart Lockers”, which in Italian are called “drawer‑type vending machines” or “smart lockers”, are becoming an increasingly widespread reality: they are placed inside supermarkets, gas stations, shops, tobacconists, and are also used more and more within companies to simplify the exchange of goods, optimize time and limit human interaction. This service is also very useful for people who are out all day and cannot be at home during the delivery hours communicated by couriers. Nowadays, with increasingly hectic work rhythms and lifestyles, package pickup has become a growing problem, and smart lockers are able to make life easier for online shoppers.

Harvin, which never fails to keep up with modernity and innovation, was able to foresee this market need several years ago: in fact, the company began producing smart lockers starting from 2008, with the creation of technological drawer‑type vending machines for pellet distribution, even before large e‑commerce players such as Amazon itself started using this distribution tool!

But why are Smart Lockers becoming more and more widespread, especially at this time?

  • As you have probably deduced, the situation caused by Covid has given a strong boost to the development of this reality, because many people now prefer to use smart lockers to pick up their goods, in order to minimize human contact and therefore the risk of contagion.
  • But the most obvious reason is the growth of e‑commerce and online shops, which are increasingly replacing physical stores, making smart lockers a service highly appreciated by customers for the delivery of the products they buy.
  • Nowadays, more and more people need an alternative solution to home deliveries to receive their packages, without having to queue for long stretches at pickup points or post offices during fixed opening hours.

Smart Lockers are the ideal solution! Especially because they allow you to pick up your products at any time.

How do Smart Lockers work?

They are vending machines that look like large smart lockers, made up of modular and adjustable drawers of various sizes. You have certainly seen them very often in the last few years in high‑traffic locations such as supermarkets, gas stations and tobacconists.

They are generally positioned in public places and are managed by logistics operators or directly by e‑commerce companies.

You can have the package delivered to the desired location, and once the delivery is completed, a message will notify you that you can pick it up at any time from a specific smart locker at a designated pickup point.

The most advanced solutions consist of Smart Lockers equipped with secure, modular drawers (which can be expanded according to the number of deliveries received), a touch‑screen interface and software for registration, traceability and monitoring of the products.

To receive a package, you will receive a message or an e‑mail informing you that the requested product is inside the smart locker. You will then be provided with a one‑time code for pickup, which will be valid only for that package. The recipient can then go to the lockers whenever it is convenient and pick up the product easily, at the time they wish, in a discreet way and fully respecting their privacy.

As we were saying, this phenomenon is now widespread in shopping centres, gas stations, but also in schools, universities, apartment buildings, companies, and so on. Why not offer smart lockers not only as a tool for traditional sectors, but also for light hemp e‑commerce? This solution would undoubtedly increase sales, especially considering that many customers do not feel comfortable interacting in person with shop staff when purchasing this category of products, for reasons of privacy and discretion. Many will therefore appreciate the possibility of picking up their package in complete peace of mind, at a convenient pickup point and at any time!

Harvin has designed a solution suitable also for the hemp sector… continue reading our blog to discover all the news about our project and our services, and follow us on the social networks Instagram, Facebook and YouTube!
